Logan bound

This morning we are leaving for Logan Utah for Karen's Mother's Day hike with Krista and her family. Last year we had a great hike up in the Logan Canyon and this year we are heading back up there again. Krista wanted me to choose the destination since I spent a week riding my bike up there last year while she and her mother were in Alaska. My choice was out toward Old Ephraim's Grave which is the grave of a huge grizzly bear that was killed there back in the early part of the 1900's. This bear was the largest ever recorded and the head is somewhere in the Smithsonian in Washington DC. I tried to find it last year when we were there but I never could. Here is the plaque that commemorates the spot where he was killed. Kind of sad in a way but the inevitable result of the interaction between people and wild things.

Boxes!

Funny thing about moving is how you need to find boxes. I'm sure it's going to take a lot of boxes to get all of Karen's stuff moved to Greenville but all of my stuff, or most of it anyway, is already in totes from my last move. All I need to do is repack my clothes. Good thing I gave all my stuff away before I moved here, huh? There are so many things to do ahead that it's hard to know where to start. Bits and pieces, that's the best way to tackle a big job so that's what we will have to do.

On another note we have been shopping for rings which is the first time in my life I have done that. I bought a wedding ring for Linda years ago but I don't remember putting a lot of shopping effort into it. But then, what can I remember from that many years ago...

We bought a house!

We found what seems to be the most perfect house for us near Greenville. Actually it's between Greenville and Crescent Mills but the address is Greenville. Ok, the truth is that this place has 2 addresses, one on Highway 89, Crescent Mills and the other on Mountain View Road, Greenville. Go figure. Needless to say we like the Greenville address and the mailbox is on Mountain View Road so we will use that one. I can't say I've ever lived in a place that had 2 addresses before. This is a pretty nice house, 4 bedrooms and 2 baths but already we have a fairly long list of things we want to do to it. The upstairs bathroom has this really nice skylight as you can see in the top picture and it makes it totally unnecessary to turn a light on in there during the day. The view from the deck is really nice looking out to Indian Valley and the mountains that surround it. There are 2 small ponds that I want to clean out and you can see the cattails in the larger one in the lower picture.

We won't be moving right away since escrow doesn't close till the end of next month and we have lots to do to get the house in Idaho ready to put on the market. It's going to be a long drawn out process to move the 700 miles between houses and I hope we can keep the number of trips down to a manageable number. One thing for sure, both of us really love the view from the deck, check it out! Ya gotta love that!

Beautiful Weather!

We have had a few days of really nice weather so we got out and went bike riding. Well, bike riding had it's problems since we couldn't take the dogs with us so we were walking down the street past the bike store the other day and decided to go in and look at the bike trailers again to see if one of them might fit the dogs. As you can see in the picture, we found one that can also double as a grocery carrying unit and it even has a top. It pulls really easy and I don't notice the weight even when it has two dogs in it. Ok, so the dogs have it better than me, huh? I actually like having the extra thing to pull behind me since I can certainly use the exercise, and the dogs seem to like it too.

No bars in more places

Yep, that should be AT&T's new slogan. When I got to Greenville I wanted to call Karen and let her know I had made it there safely I was surprised to see that I had no bars at all on my cell phone. Now we had always had cell service on her property so it was a little surprising that now there was none. There was a little new snow on the mountains so maybe that could account for it but still it was a little disconcerting not to be able to make a call. I walked around the property thinking maybe I was in a dead spot but to no avail. In desperation I restarted my phone and got one bar and I was able to talk for a short time but after that the service was terrible and kept dropping my calls so I got frustrated and gave up.

Ya just gotta love that advertising campaign that AT&T has, unfortunately that's all it is and it's really not true in reality and their service really sucks instead. Go AT&T... to you know where, that is!

On the road again

Woke up this morning at Tracey's to rain pouring down. I guess that's preferable to snow falling so it's ok with me but I'm hoping that when I get back to the mountains later today I won't be seeing too much of the white stuff there. I'm going down through Napa to visit Bill for a short time before heading back to Greenville and since I have never been down that way it will be a new drive for me.

Tomorrow I have another long drive in store for me, back to Idaho and that one is a route I know well. As much as I have enjoyed my trip out here I can't wait to get back to see my beautiful lady and as she wraps up the end of tax season we have plenty of free time in our future. Ya gotta love that!

Sunny California

Ok, maybe the weather this year has been anything but sunny but it's a might warmer than it is were I live. I got snowed on all day when I was in Greenville and the roads the next day were a mess all the way down to Mineral. Then the next day it rained so hard that the streets were flooding in Anderson where I was holed up at my sister's house trying to stay warm and dry.

I ended up meeting up with Bob and Dennis a day late due to the bad weather and Monday when we all met at the lake the rain was really coming down. There were some heavy showers going on that day and we were out in the boat trying to fish when one of them moved over us. We finally got a break on Tuesday and then Wednesday was just beautiful and we were finally able to get the heavy coats and sweatshirts off for a while. Unfortunately poor Dennis was sick and ended up going home when we got back to camp. The good thing that happened that day was that in the evening we saw some fish activity in the cove where we were camping and when I went down to throw a spinnerbait I started catching some really nice bass. I ended up catching the same number there that I did all day in about a half an hour and some of them were nice and chunky. Ya gotta love that!

So now I'm over in Fortuna till Monday when I head down to Napa to see Bill on my way back to Greenville for the night then Tuesday back to Idaho. Of course there is yet another storm coming for Sunday and Monday so my drive might be a little wet, I just hope it's not the color white.
